Rick Aston met Jesus face to face on the afternoon of October 15, 2022.  Born in Houston, TX, on September 9, 1965, Rick's devotion to his family, his integrity in all he did, and his deep love for his Savior defined his life for 57 years.

Rick grew up in Houston, TX.  He graduated in 1988 with a finance degree from Trinity University in San Antonio. He later received his MBA from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Trinity is also where he met his wife, Lara Aston.  Together they had many adventures with their four beautiful children, amazing friends, and extended family. Rick was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church for over 20 years, growing in his faith and developing deep personal relationships.

With an abiding and unshakeable love for the Lord, Rick was a rock of stability for his family.  His faithfulness and joy were an incredible legacy that he passed down to his 4 children.  He loved his wife with a fierce desire to care for her and protect her. He had many friends who admired him and sought his input. He looked for ways to bring a smile to someone's face regardless of circumstances.  Even in his last days, he often asked the nurses, who cared for him, how he could make them smile.

Rick enjoyed helping people pursue their passions and enjoyed developing teams. Whether hunting and fishing, watching his kids compete or perform, being an elder at Salem, or working as an IT project manager, Rick's desire was to draw out the strengths of those around him and provide support where needed.  In recent years, he pursued his own passion with real estate investments and made many great friends along the way.

Rick loved the outdoors, especially Leakey, TX, and the Frio River.  He enjoyed woodworking in the garage, hunting with his sons, and playing games with his family. He was a master at grilling chicken, steaks, and hamburgers.

Rick is survived by his wife of almost 33 years, Lara Aston; son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Andie Aston; son, Caleb Aston; daughter, Faith Aston; and daughter and son-in-law, Savanna and Jared Leon.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Rice and Ursula Aston, and is survived by his sister, Sonya Aston, and his brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Fiona Aston.  Rick is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tim and Carleanne Tognetty, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rev. Bill and Julie Woolsey.  Rick has numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

The Aston family would like to extend our deep appreciation to the many people who surrounded us during Rick's last days.  We are heartbroken and grieving, but we do not grieve without hope.  Rick was sure of his heavenly destination. He was a good and faithful servant; he won the race.  We long for the day that we will see him again. In the meantime, we will continue to pursue our passions, care for one another, and share the love of Christ with those around us.

In lieu of flowers, Rick has asked for donations to be made to American Syringomyelia and Chiari Alliance Project at asap.org . This organization conducts research related to the health challenges of his youngest daughter.

A funeral service celebrating Rick's life and faith will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 20, at Salem Lutheran Church, 22601 Lutheran Church Road, Tomball. Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 10 a.m.
