Richard Scott Simmons, 57, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on April 21, 2026.

Born on June 12, 1968 in Starkville, Mississippi, to Richard G. Simmons and Judith B.

Shirley, Scott was a free spirit who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He left a lasting. impression on everyone and was loved for his outgoing nature and friendship to all he met.

He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family who love him dearly.

Scott worked in the oil industry for most of his adult life and after completing a difficult training course, he was able to have his dream job of being a crane operator for the last few years, again working in the oil industry. He also served in the 82nd Airborne unit at Fort Bragg, North Carolina in the mid 1980's.

Scott is survived by his mother, Judi Shirley of Columbia, SC (Barry), brother, Darren W.

Simmons, Diamondhead, MS., stepsons, Gustavo and Abel of Pasadena, Texas, and lifelong friend Tony Holder of Huffman, Texas. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins scattered over the country who meant a lot to him...

A memorial/celebration of life gathering of his friends and family will be held at a later date.
