Richard Hilmer Schulze, age 88, of Cypress, Texas passed away November 27, 2025. He was born August 8, 1937, in Floresville, Texas, the only son of Hilmer E. Schulze and Lois Janik Schulze. Richard grew up in the farming and ranching community of Dewees near Poth, Texas.

After graduating from Poth High School, he left the farm to further his education by working part-time and attending Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, Texas. Inspired by a brief internship with Shell Oil, he went on to attain his Bachelor's degree in petroleum land management at the University of Texas at Austin in 1964, where he met his wife, Carolyn. He began his career with Skelly Oil in Lafayette, Louisiana and retired after over 40 years as a certified professional landman working for oil and gas companies that were mostly in the Houston area.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carolyn; his daughters, Kristen Schulze and Karen Schulze, both of Houston, Texas; his son, Jonathan Schulze and wife Jennifer of San Antonio, Texas; and grandsons, Brandon and James. He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister, Beverly.

Richard enjoyed being with his family, often grilling for family occasions, tinkering on projects in the garage, and being outdoors working in the yard and garden. He particularly enjoyed maintaining the family farm after his retirement.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, December 30th at 11am at Kinsmen Lutheran Church, 12100 Champion Forest Drive, Houston, Texas 77066.
