Ric had various roles throughout the U.S. as well as being stationed in Japan during the Korean War. In the Fall of 1957. He was assigned as an ROTC instructor as Kansas State University where he met his wife, Teresa. He quickly stole Teresa's heart and they were married in August, 1958 in Newton, Kansas.

In the summer of 1960, he was honorably discharged from the Air Force and headed to Los Angeles with Teresa where he attended the Art Institute. Their first child, Mark, was born in May 1963. Ric's true passions were his wife and family. His other passions and hobbies included fishing, boating, tinkering in his workshop with multiple crafts including leather tooling, stained glass, wood carving and more. Ric got his energy from talking to people wherever he went and creating "originals" which he often gifted to others. Whether he was in the city or their costal home coastal home in Rockport, Texas, he found joy in making others happy. Ric never met a stranger and always had time for anyone he met. He taught his children importance of commitment, hard work and the "Golden Rule" – treating others as one would wish to be treated.
