Richard Hoskins III Obituary
Richard Ireland Hoskins III, age 74, of Houston, TX passed away peacefully on January 23, 2024 (National Pie Day). Richard was born June 21, 1949 in Dorcester, MA. Fondly known as "Pie Guy" he graduated from University of Dayton as a Chemical Engineer in 1972, working quickly through the ranks to become Divisional President at a Fortune 500 company at age 29. Destined to be the Captain of his own ship, he made a short stop in Iowa on route to Lake Forest, IL in 1985, where he ultimately became an owner of his own business…..a lifelong dream. At Colborne, he pioneered many leading innovations that have become standards in the industry. He quickly became an industry leader, becoming Chairman of the Baking Equipment Manufacturers Association, International Baking Industry Exposition and American Pie Council. Named to the Baking Industries Influential 20 in 2009 and later was honored by BEMA with the Fred Springer Lifetime Achievement Award. Rich never officially retired.
In his spare time, Rich had an insatiable thirst for risk and adventure. Learning to fly, or some would say, learning to emergency land, he truly expanded his horizons. Most will remember his passion for boating, or some would say, sinking boats. There was no place on earth Rich would rather be than on the water. When he wasn't on the water or in the air, he was on his 1976 Harley Davidson Sportster, or at least standing next to it when he laid it down. No passion stood above his family, his most tolerant and patient wife of 54 years, Linda and his grandchildren, where he spent countless hours spectating, coaching and supporting them in their various endeavors since the day they were born.
He is preceded in death by his Father, Richard Ireland Hoskins Jr. and Mother, Alice Cleverly Hoskins. He is survived by his wife Linda Schaedler Hoskins; son Richard Ireland Hoskins IV (Nicole); daughter Lysa Hynes; grandchildren Richard Ireland Hoskins V, Riley Ann Hoskins and Braden Thomas Hoskins.
