Richard Roy Giles, 66 years of age, passed on Friday, February 3 rd , 2023 at his residence in Houston, TX, from Pancreatic Cancer.
Richard was born November 30, 1956 in Philadelphia, PA to his late parents Floyd and Arline Giles. He was the youngest of 2 children.
Richard married Lynn Sherwood in 1982 and they had one child, David Paul Giles.
Richard attended Hartt College of Music where he received a Bachelors in Music as well as the University of Houston where he received a Masters in Music in cello performance. Richard was active in the classical music scene in Houston including the Houston Ballet and the Houston Grand Opera in the 1980s. He went on to get an associates degree in Computer Science and started his career in Information Technology in the late 1980s and worked at two successful startups (Mission Critical Software and Idera Inc.) between 1987 and 2016. He spent the last 5 years doing private consulting and retired in 2021.
Richard and his wife, Lynn, both enjoyed traveling most of their lives and seeing many parts of the world. Richard was also an avid cyclist and enjoyed participating in many cycling events including the MS 150 from Houston to Austin, bike to the beach from San Antonio to Corpus Christi, an Adventure Cycling tour of Utah and part of the Iron Man route in Hawaii. Late in life he also became a flight simulation enthusiast.
Richard's biggest accomplishment was raising his son, David, to become a thoughtful and caring adult.
Richard's fulfilling life will forever be cherished in the lives of his wife, Lynn Sherwood Giles; son, David Giles, and daughter-in-law, Gladys Perez; and brother Steve Giles.
