Obituary

Richard "Dick" Moore was born on July 13, 1930, in the small East Texas town of Steep Creek, and he left this world to be with his Lord on October 7, 2024.  In 1948, at 17 years of age, Dick proudly enlisted in the US Navy, where he served as a devoted Corpsman alongside the Marines.  He bravely participated in the legendary Battle of the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War, dedicating himself to his country until 1954.

From 1958 to 1964, he served as a distinguished highway patrolman with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and was assigned to the Spring area.  In 1965, he was elected Harris County Constable of Precinct #7 for three terms. Though redistricted out of office by the Commissioners Court in 1973, his unwavering commitment to public service shone through when he was re-elected Harris County Constable of Precinct #4 in 1981, a position he held until his well-deserved retirement in 2000. Throughout his illustrious career, he was not only an exemplary law enforcement officer but also a beacon of inspiration to countless young men and women who had the privilege of serving under his wise and compassionate leadership.

Richard was preceded in death by Lois Sturrock Moore, the mother of his children, as well as his cherished sons, Stephen and Ricky Moore, and his stepdaughter, Leanne Moore Gaulden. He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Karen Wallingford Moore; his son, Gregory Moore (Sue); his grandson, Brandon Moore (Nazli); his stepchildren, Janet Chess (Richard) and Keith Moore (Robyn); and his grandchildren Madison, Remington, Makena, Mallory, and Nathan. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Lex, Brooks, Sophie, and Hallie, who will carry forward his legacy of love and service.
