Richard Coulter died on January 15, 2018 in Spring, Texas. Known to his friends as "Dick," he was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on December 25, 1929.

He graduated from Tulsa Central High School, Class of 1947 and attended Oklahoma University, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity.

He received his BS in Business Administration from The University of Tulsa in 1952.

Dick served as an officer in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska.

He later received his Juris Doctor from The University of Tulsa in 1961 and was a member of the Texas Bar Association – International Law and Taxation Law Sections, Oklahoma Bar Association, Houston Bar Association – International Law, Taxation Law and Probate, Trusts and Estate Sections and the Tax Executives Institute. He also held membership in the American Petroleum Institute – General Committee Taxation, the Houston Northwest Masonic Lodge, was a Shriner in the Arabia Temple and past President of the Arabia Shrine Drum and Bugle Corps.

He met the woman he would marry, Mary Janelle Farris, while hosting a camp for Teenage Republicans, while she was with the Washington County Young Republicans in Oklahoma. They were married in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on December 9, 1966. Their first apartment was in Tulsa, and their son, Chris, was born while they lived there.

Dick was transferred to Plano, Texas, and then to Chesterfield, Missouri.  Their daughter, Caryn, was born in Chesterfield.  From Missouri, they were transferred to Spring, Texas. Dick and Janelle were married for 48 years and she preceded him in death on May 30, 2015.

Dick worked as a Tax Attorney for Sun Oil (1966-1974) in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Dallas, Texas, and for Monsanto Company (1974-1982) in St. Louis, Missouri and Monsanto Oil (1982-1985) Houston, Texas, BHP Petroleum (Americas) Inc. (1985-1993) In Houston, Texas until he retired in 1993.

Whether having friends over for the weekend, making friends feel at home during a vacation, or hosting a Bridge party; The Coulters were known for their hospitality.

Dick was a seasoned Bridge player with extensive play from the time he was in college until well into his 80's.  He also enjoyed going fishing.

Dick is preceded in death by his Parents, Guy Marcus and Hazel Dalgiesh Coulter of Tulsa, Oklahoma, his wife Mary "Janelle" Coulter, and sisters Martha Coulter Smith and Julia Coulter Hart.

Dick is survived by his Son, Christopher N. Coulter, his wife Cynthia, and their children Charles and Cassie; his daughter, Caryn Coulter Stewart, her husband Andrew, and their son, Justin. He is also survived by his niece, Judy Kay Friedman, her husband Jerry, their children and grandchildren.
