Richard Louis Burchfield was born July 2, 1942, in Houston, Texas to Monteen Taylor Burchfield and Richard Anderson Burchfield and died August 13, 2023, in Houston, Texas. A lifelong resident of Harris County, he was a graduate of John H. Reagan High School. He married the love of his life, Wanda Driskell on February 20, 1965, and was proud of the 58 years they spent together and the life they built.

Richard was a family man, and his greatest joy and pride was for his children Steven Louis and Susan Lynn and grandchildren Brooke, Paige, Richard, and Perry. He was an athlete and especially loved baseball and golf. During his time in the Air Force, he played for a championship team while stationed in the Philippines. He loved to play golf with his son and caddy (and cheer) for his granddaughter Brooke and served many years as a marshal at Gleannloch Pines in Spring. Richard was incredibly organized and kept meticulous records. He loved a good spreadsheet, whether tracking oil wells and property values or high school girls' golf statistics.

Richard served in the Air Force from 1964 to 1968, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Following his honorable discharge, he began work at Gulf Oil in the property tax division and retired from Chevron as a Senior Property Tax Consultant. Richard was hard-working and loved to work and operated an oil and gas property tax consulting firm for many years after his retirement, putting in more than 50 years of service as a registered property tax consultant, only fully retiring in 2022. The Texas Oil and Gas Association recognized his contributions and service to the field of property taxation in Texas in 2000.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Wanda Burchfield of Spring; son and daughter-in-law Steven and Jamie Burchfield, of Mansfield; daughter and son-in-law Susan and Bruce Kocher, of Richmond; grandchildren Brooke Kocher, Paige Kocher, Richard Burchfield, and Perry Louis Burchfield; sister Erma Burchfield Eberlan, of Houston; and sister-in-law Andrea Driskell of Waxahachie.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents Richard Anderson Burchfield and Monteen Taylor Burchfield.

The family will celebrate Richard's life with burial at Houston National Cemetery. Richard was known as a great man to all who met him. He lived a life full of integrity, respect, and love for his family, who will miss him terribly.
