Richard (Dick) Alden Bevins, 92, passed away in Houston, Texas on July 17, 2024, joining his wife of sixty-eight years, Ferris Kiehler Bevins who passed a few weeks before him.

Dick was born on November 27, 1931, in Pasadena, California to Hugh Walter Bevins and Charlotte Humphries Bevins.  Always the storyteller, he shared the tales of his youth in a memoir titled "Vinedo Avenue".  Highlights included what it was like to grow up in Southern California where he earned his high school degree at Pasadena Community College. He made an impromptu, last minute decision to attend the University of Arizona to complete his degree.  As he says in his book, "an impetuous decision I made as a young man led to a future beyond my imagination. It led me to you."

He served in the 311th Logistical Command – United States Army Reserve during the Korean War. After graduating from the University of Arizona, he accepted a position in human resources for Shell Oil Company.  His career would move his family to California, New York/New Jersey, Illinois and finally Houston.  The Bevins family was one of the first families relocated to Houston in 1970 where they built their home in Champions.  They were charter members of John Wesley Methodist Church.  He retired from Shell in 1991 as Director of Administration.

Dick was a planner.  He often discussed his POA – Plan of Action.  They loved to travel and family trips with children and grandchildren created lasting memories and a wanderlust that will continue. He was deeply committed to Ferris and him living out their lives in their own home.  He succeeded.

His memory will be cherished by his children, Jill Bevins Oliver and Douglas Richard Bevins; son-in-law, Paul Oliver; and her grandchildren, Helena Ferris Oliver, Elissa Claire Oliver Gonzalez, Sophie Marie Bevins, and Elissa's husband, Pablo Gonzalez.
