Obituary

Richard Baker,77, of Houston, passed away June 6, 2024. He was born December 23, 1946, in Houston, TX to the late John Fred Baker and Marjorie Barbara Baker.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathryn Baker, his brother John Baker, his niece Kasey Baker, his nephew John Kelly Baker, his cousin Ruth Ellen Scales. and his sister-in-law Nancy Baker and extended family.

Including his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Baker and sister-in-law Rose Logan.

Richard Baker was an alumni of Aldine High School and of the University of Houston. A lifelong Houstonian, he was an avid Houston Astros fan and rarely missed watching a game on TV. His other favorite sport was golf which he loved to watch and to play. He loved a wide variety of music. Two of his favorite vacation spots were Orange Beach, AL and Epcot at Disney World. He looked forward to spending time with his neighbors especially Gio and Gracie and their family. He thought of them as family. He also loved animals. He absolutely doted on his daughter's Boston Terrier, Gwendolyn, and referred to her as his granddaughter. He was heartbroken at her passing. Though not a huge cat fan most of his life, he became a huge cat lover thanks to his daughter's cat Dino. He thought of him as a grandson. And after Dino, encouraged his daughter in rescuing two more cats aka his granddaughters, Stormy Dawn and Irene (whom he named after the song "Goodnight Irene."). To the absolute surprise and delight of loved ones, he even took in a cat of his own, whom he named Bubi.
