Rhonda Sydney Derrick

August 4, 1949 ~ October 17, 2026

Rhonda Sydney Derrick, known fondly as “Nana,” “Weeza,” and “Daisy,” was born in Houston, Texas, and went to be with the Lord on October 17, 2026. Her life was defined by her devotion to her family, her friends, and her faith.

If you knew Rhonda, you knew her laugh. It came easily and often, filling every room she walked into. She loved big, with a servant’s heart, and nothing mattered more to her than her family. Raising her children was the work of her life, and she poured herself into it with a love that carried on through the generations. Her grandchildren were the light of her life. She cherished every moment with them, cheered them on in everything they did, and never missed a chance to tell them how proud she was. She was adored by family and friends alike, and it was easy to see why.

Rhonda was loved deeply in return, most of all by her husband, Mike. For 53 years, he adored her and treated her like a queen, and anyone who saw them together could see what she meant to him. Their love was a constant for their family, and an example their children and grandchildren grew up with.

Her servant’s heart reached far beyond her own home. Rhonda worked at Cy-Fair High School, where she made a lasting, positive impact on the staff and students who knew her. She was a devoted advocate for students, the elderly, and animals, and she never hesitated to stand up for those who needed someone in their corner.

Rhonda found happiness in simple pleasures: a day of fishing, her garden, the birds that visited it, her beloved Houston Astros, and watching her great-granddaughters dance. She never passed up a chance to try her luck at the casino. And no one ever saw her without her signature Revlon Cherries in the Snow lipstick.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roger and Imogene “Jean” Lykins, and her great-grandson, Thomas Glen Reynolds.

Rhonda is survived by her husband of 53 years, Thomas Michael “Mike” Derrick; her son, Steven Derrick, and his wife, Hollye; her daughter, Ginger Derrick Rollins, and her husband, Greg; her grandchildren, Bailey Rollins and his wife, Heather; Morgan Reynolds and her husband, Andrew; and Dayne Derrick and his fiancée, Molly Maddox; and her great-granddaughters, Eloise and Edith Reynolds.

She will be dearly missed, and her laugh will be remembered by everyone lucky enough to have heard it.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Hearthstone Garden Club Scholarship Fund, 7710 Cherry Park Dr., Suite T-526, Houston, TX 77095; the Houston SPCA at houstonspca.org; or the American Cancer Society at American Cancer Society. Please designate all gifts “in memory of Rhonda Derrick.”
