RHETT WALKER KENNEL

Rhett Kennel, 61 of Cypress, Texas passed away peacefully at home with loving family at his side on January 14, 2021. Rhett was born in Torrance, California on December 9, 1959 and was preceded in death by his father Vernon and mother Sylvia (Walker) Kennel. He is survived by his loving wife Kathryn, a sister Cindy and her husband Dave Scott of Virginia, his mother-in-law Sally and her husband Mike Scruggs, father-in-law Bob and his wife Cookie Sampson, a sister-in-law Dwana and her husband Bill Steed, a sister-in-law Tamberly and her husband Michael Hurosky, brother-in- law Danny and his wife Anita Sampson, brother-in-law Robert Dwyan and numerous nieces and nephews.

At an early age, Rhett and his family moved to Lancaster, PA, where his paternal Mennonite grandparents influenced his character and faith in Christ Jesus. After additional education in State College, Pennsylvania, Rhett moved to Houston, Texas in 1981 and spent his career in electronics. Rhett and Kathryn loved to travel, camp, and spend time in the outdoors with friends and in his beloved Jeep. They had many adventures from rock climbing in the hill county near Austin to driving on the sandy beaches up and down the Texas coast. He could be heard using his famous sayings of "What's happening?" "O-Boy" and "Groovy" and flashing his sweet smile for anyone nearby. Rhett will always be remembered for his integrity, his character, his sense of humor, and by all the people he helped. He could build anything from scratch and if you needed help, you did not even have to ask; Rhett was there.

Due to the Covid situation, there will be a local private family service next week.
