Reynaldo "Rey" Garcia of Mission, Texas, entered eternal rest Friday, June 24, 2022, at 73. He was born to Antonio and Lucia Garcia on January 15, 1949. Rey endured the loss of both parents by age 21 and chose to become legal guardian to 5 of his younger siblings.
Rey met his "Sweetheart," Mericelda "Mere" Garcia, in high school and married her on January 5, 1973. In his early twenties, he worked as a security guard with Wells Fargo in Dallas, Texas, which led him to start a career in law enforcement. For the next 33 years, he worked as a deputy and later investigator for the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office and the South Texas Auto Theft Task Force.
While Rey's dedication to a life of service for his community was something he was proud of, his focus was always his family. Above all, Rey was a man of faith, a loving and dutiful husband, dad, grandfather, friend, and compadre to so many. As a husband, he was Mere's constant companion and best friend, and they enjoyed traveling many places together. He was always present for his children's and grandchildren's milestones and extracurricular activities. He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Lucia Garcia, and his eldest brother Eulogio Garcia. Rey is survived by his wife, Mere, children, Anna L. White (Christopher, Sr.), Reynaldo D. Garcia (Erica) and Teresa (Terri) L. Garcia (Albert), grandchildren Cristiani B. White, Christopher R. White, Jr., Zakory R. Garcia, Kaleb E. Garcia, Genesis Z. Garcia, Anastasia Z. Garcia, and siblings Mary Ann Treviño (Esteban), Marcela de Leon (+Mario), Alicia Salej (Eduardo), Lucy Rivas, Antonio Garcia (Terry), Linda Deering (+Tom), and his sister-in-law Petra Garcia (+Eulogio).
He will forever be loved and remembered by all.
