Rev. Richard Allen Borgman

Rev. Richard Allen Borgman Sr. of Magnolia went home to his heavenly father on August 19, 2026, at the age of 86. Richard was born on June 7, 1940 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to the late John F. Borgman and Helen Fern (Dingman) Borgman.

While growing up in Grand Rapids, Richard delivered newspapers for the Grand Rapids Press. He also enjoyed chasing the girls and playing sports. In high school he played in the summer for the Palmer Shop Pirates. On the mound he was famously known as “Fireball” Borgman. While playing for Grand Rapids South High School Trojans he was featured in newspaper photos and mentioned in numerous articles. Richard loved sharing stories about his baseball days, especially the unforgettable game when he pitched a no-hitter.

Richard met Nancy on a blind date in January 1958. His days of chasing girls were officially over when they married on August 9 of that same year. While living in Grand Rapids, they were blessed with four children. They were active in their church holding several key lay positions. Richard continued to enjoy playing baseball until his coach made him choose between playing for his baseball team or attending church on Sundays. That Sunday he hung up his baseball jersey for the last time.

In 1970, Richard and Nancy felt God calling them into full-time ministry. They sold their house on 41st Street and moved to Marion, Indiana to study at Marion College. Richard put on his new jersey for Team Jesus and in his career, he pastored 12 different churches in Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky. Evangelism was a paramount priority. Beyond the sermons of his local church, Richard conducted over 70 revivals and camp meetings. Driven by a passion for souls, he shared the message of Jesus with every resident who would open their door to him.

In the late 1970’s Richard and Nancy had their fifth child. Richard also discovered a new affection for the game of golf, appreciating the rare freedom it gave him to tee off on his own timetable. More than the game itself, he deeply cherished the time it allowed him to spend on the greens with his brother Morris, his sons, and his nephews. Whether meeting up for a round during ministerial conferences or seizing any spare moment to play, these games became a beloved tradition of family fellowship and shared joy.

Richard retired from full-time ministry in 2002 and moved from Etna Green, IN to Magnolia, Texas to reside near his daughters. Richard continued to serve in various capacities and never stopped sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was lovingly referred to as the chaplain of McDonalds.

Reverend Richard is survived by his loving children, son Rev. Richard Allen Borgman, Jr. (Victoria), son Michael John Borgman (Pamela), daughter Deborah Lynn Borgman, daughter Judith Janet Johnson (William), daughter Diann Lynn Sorensen (Michael), eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, brother Laurel Ellis and sister Raenell Rogers and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and brothers and sisters in Christ.

Including his parents Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Nancy Ann Borgman; infant daughter Lorna Irene Borgman, brother Morris Borgman (Dorthea), sister Marion Butler (Frank), sister Patsy Hooker (David), brother Gerald Borgman (Sharon), brother Robert Ellis and grandson Travis Allen Johnson.

The family will receive visitors Monday, August 24th, 2026, from 10 AM to 11 AM at Bethel Baptist Church, 34603 Wright Road Pinehurst, Texas 77362. Funeral Services immediately following with Pastor Marco Barnes officiating. Interment to follow in Klein Memorial Park 1488.

Serving as pallbearers are Brandon Johnson, Eric Ketron, Troy Nobles, Levi Sorensen, Sean Walker and Ryan Whitenett.

Memorial contributions can be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
