Obituary

Kathleen Renea Ferriss

On Wednesday, March 29,2023 Renea Ferriss, proud mother and loving wife saw the face of Jesus.  Renea had battled health issues for the last two years as a result of a serious accident but had recovered substantially to the point of being able to resume a normal life.

There have been many who have said they would rather give than receive but Renea is the only person I have ever known who truly lived this way.  Renea worked at Muscular Dystrophy Association and St. Jude to help so many that were unable to help themselves.  Her heart broke for those with these diseases but she believed that her work and that of so many others would help find a cure.

Renea was known for the parties she organized at our home.  The holiday decorations, charcuterie boards overflowing with food, games she organized, or the quiet times sitting around the firepit with a glass of wine all gave her so much joy.

Our Thanksgiving with family was crazy but Renea was able to corral everyone.  We had so many memories of these precious times with family.  Our Christmas gatherings started with the Aschenbeck family and one empty chair for someone who would have been alone and grew to twenty-seven of our closest friends.

Renea had an infectious laugh that everyone recognized because it carried so much joy.  Renea was the first to laugh at her jokes and everyone enjoyed hearing her laughter.  Renea loved Emily beyond measure and her grandchildren and friends gave her so much joy.  Renea and I were two weeks from our forty eighth anniversary. Renea was my better half and I am far less without her.  She was my best friend, loving wife, and gentle critic and I will miss her terribly but she will always be in our hearts and we will do our best to make her proud of us.

Renea is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Emily Barber, son-in-law Luke Barber, grandchildren Brody, Brooklynn, and Natalie, sister Dorothy Standley, and many nieces and nephews.

Renea was preceded in death by her father Jesse Mack Burns, mother Gladys Dingman Burns, and brother Bill Patterson.

A time of visitation will be held on April 22, 2023 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am with the memorial service to begin at 10:30 am at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, 14225 Hargrave Rd, Houston, TX 77070
