Reinder Gerald "Gery" Schilsky, 60, of Houston, TX passed away Tuesday morning, September 6, 2022, in Hemphill, TX. He is survived by his wife Maritess Schilsky and daughter Leslie Ann Schilsky along with his sister-in-law Linda Schilsky, nieces, Meredith Makanda Schilsky and Ava Riann Schilsky, and nephew Steven Ryan Schilsky. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.

Gery was born in Springfield, IL on February 28, 1962 to Reinder Feldkamp Schilsky Jr. and Eudora Ann Winterrowd. Gery grew up in Springfield and later moved to Athens, IL. After completing high school, Gery proudly joined the US army. Through his own initiative, while serving, Gery began studying German and followed through on his learning journey until achieving fluency. Gery served as a linguist specialist and retired honorably as a Staff Sergeant after 22 years of service.

In 1988, Gery graduated from Illinois State University with a B.S. in International Business. He quickly became an adept transportation and logistics salesman. During his 34-year career span, Gery gained expertise in all modes of freight transportation while expanding his network of friends and colleagues around the world. In 2021, Gery accomplished a lifelong goal of starting his own company. Given his strong work ethic, he would have undoubtedly achieved further success in his business.

As much as he enjoyed excelling in his career, Gery tirelessly dedicated himself to his family and many hobbies. He and his wife of nearly 32 years, remained steadfast in partnership, sharing moments of joy and hardship together. He loved cheering on his daughter at athletic competitions, absorbing and discussing politics, attempting to fish, and improving his golf stroke. Later in life, Gery found a passion for ranching and breeding cattle, especially longhorns. He was well-known for his intense focus, friendly disposition, and constant helping hand.

Memorial Service and Celebration of Life event details

Tess and Leslie welcome family, friends, and acquaintances of Gery to join us in honoring his life on September 30 and October 1.

The memorial service will be held at Windwood Presbyterian Church on Friday, September 30, 2022 5:00- 6:00 PM CST. The event will also be livestreamed & recorded for those who cannot attend but would like to view the service. To view the service, please click the link here .

The celebration of life event will be held at the Northgate Country Club on Saturday, October 1, 2022 12:00 – 3:00 PM CST. Light lunch and hors d'oeurves will be provided. Attire is business casual. We encourage guests to think of fond memories and/ or bring photos you would like to share in a booklet that will be available at the event.
