REBECCA ANTOINETTE STROBEL SCHELNICK, 70, passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer on September 25, 2018. Rebecca was born to Abe and Juanita Strobel on October 15, 1947 in Houston, Texas.
Rebecca loved God, the beach, reading books, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends. She married the love of her life, Darrell, on January 21, 1989. Together, they enjoyed traveling all over the world from trips to Italy, Egypt, Israel, Mexico, and the Caribbean to places all over the United States, but their most treasured spot was at their beach house in Galveston. Rebecca was a long-time member of Tomball Bible Church where she had an unwavering faith and belief in everlasting life. In 2010, Rebecca retired from Tomball Independent School District after more than twenty years of service during which time she supported the staff at various schools and district offices with her sweet and friendly demeanor, great attention to detail, and impeccable organizational skills. Through work, she made many life-long friends.
Rebecca will be missed dearly by her loving and devoted husband, Darrell, son Chris and Suzanne Mangels, daughter Anja and Byron Mims, daughter Erika Mangels, step-daughter Kim and Jerry Ware, step-daughter Tina and Richard Gutierrez, and step-son James Schelnick. She was blessed with nine grandchildren whom she adored (Elisabeth, Joshua, Erin, Lauren, Madeline, Timothy, Lana, Justin, and Jeremy) and three great-grandchildren (Caroline, Killian, and Kieran). Rebecca is also survived by her sisters Norma White, Mary and Bill Lemond, Bette and Raleigh Bailes, and Barbara and Frank Hembree, along with two brothers, Johnny and Susan Strobel and Larry Strobel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Abe and Juanita, brother Robert Strobel and sister Marguerite Matthews.
The family will be present for visitation from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, September 30 at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball. A Memorial Service celebrating Rebecca's life will be held in the chapel at Klein Funeral Home in Magnolia on October 1 at 10:00 am.
