Rebecca Massie passed away April 3, 2023.

She was born June 10, 1928 in Detroit Michigan to Romanian immigrants Rebecca Olianos Dragos and George Dragos. Growing up in Detroit, she spoke both Romanian and English where she attended the Romanian Orthodox church and learned the life lessons that only those who grew up in the Great Depression know. In collage she enjoyed fencing and horseback riding. She earned a B.S. degree from Western Michigan and went to work at Detroits Childern's Hospital in the burn unit and cancer ward.

She said it was the hardest, saddest job she ever had. Returning to school, she earned a Masters in Micro-Biology from The University of Michigan. Obtaining a position in the Eli Lilly Corp, she worked on quality control for many products including the Polio vaccine. It was in Indiana that she met and married (March 1962) Dr. Winfield Massie, a veterinarian and the love of her life. Rebecca and Dr. Winfield Massie then moved to Waverly, Virginia to start a family. One daughter, Rebecca and one son, Frank. While living in Waverly, Va. she attended and volunteered at Christ Episcopal Church. She also helped found the Carpenter Museum (a Museum dedicated to the work of a local folk artist), worked on elections, taught chemistry at Tidewater Academy, worked at the Museum of Natural Science in Richmond VA. and too many other things to mention. In 1992 Rebecca and Winfield moved to Houston, Texas to be closer to their daughter and grand children. She was active at St. Dunstans's Episcopal church and helped establish St. Mary Magdalene Romanian Orthodox church of Houston. Rebecca and Winfield volunteered as Docents at the Houston zoo as they both shared a great love of animals. She was an accomplished cook, craft-er, and avid bridge player.

She is survived by childern Rebecca Kusko and husband David Kusko, son Frank Massie, grandchildern Rebecca Kusko, John Kusko and wife Mary Kusko and their daughter Sopiia, and grandson Joe Kusko,

She was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed by her family.

There will be a viewing/visitation on Wednesday, April 26th at Klein Funeral home from 5:00 to 8:00, 16131 Champion Forest Dr. Spring Texas 77379.

There will be a Memorial service Thursday, April 27th at 3:00 PM at St. Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 14301 Stuebner Airline Rd. Houston, Texas 77069.

Interment will be Wednesday, May 3rd at Maplewood Cemetery in Charlottesville Virginia where Rebecca will be buried with her Husband Winfield Massie.
