Rebecca "Becky" Jean Obenland was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on December 12, 1954, and passed away in Houston, Texas on September 10, 2024 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born again by faith in our Lord Jesus Christ at the age of five.
On August 9,1975, Becky married the love of her life, Warren G. Obenland at First Baptist Church in Danville, Illinois. Becky met Warren in the spring of 1973 while attending Tennessee Temple College. They began dating and fell head over heels for each other while visiting Warren's family at Cloudland State Park in Georgia the following summer. Two years later they made their vows to God to love each other for the rest of their lives.
Becky had a passion for teaching and devoted her life to helping countless students throughout the years. She spent over 30 years teaching in various grade levels and subjects. Her favorite subject to teach was History. The last 25 years of her teaching career were spent at Cypress Christian School in Houston, TX where she retired in 2023.
Becky was a loving wife for 49 years, a wonderful mom, and grandmother. She enjoyed teaching, reading, stamp collecting and solving sudoku puzzles. She loved spending time with family, especially her precious grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her father, Russel E. Mapes.
She is survived by her husband, Warren G. Obenland; her sons, Christopher Obenland, Jonathan Obenland, and Timothy Obenland; her daughters-in-law, Ashliegh Obenland and Victoria Obenland; her grandsons, Ethan Waters, Benjamin Obenland, Greyson Obenland, and Grant Obenland; her granddaughters, Annabelle Obenland and Giana Obenland; her mother, Mary Mapes; her sisters, Deborah Vance, Kathy Kline, Sarah Russ, and Joanna Wurtz; her brothers, Stephen Mapes and Daniel Mapes; also numerous nieces and nephews.
