Raymond Albert Hoffman, Sr. was born May 17, 1934, in Granite City, IL as the 13 th and youngest child of Christian Frederick and Minnie Katherine Hoffman. Raymond served on the USS Yorktown from 1952 - 1956 during the Korean War. Raymond was married to the love of his life, Janet Kay Grim, on December 1, 1956. Ray and Janet had three children: Raymond II, Tracy, and Michele. They also adopted and raised their granddaughters, Samantha, and Kendall. Raymond was preceded in death by his wife of almost 48 years and is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Raymond spent over 40 years in the corrugated containers industry doing everything from dye mounter to plant supervisor. Later, he transitioned to payroll and administrative duties for a family-owned business. Ray volunteered so extensively at Smith Elementary in the Alief School District that he received the "You Make the Difference" Award from the Alief ISD Board of Trustees and News 2 Houston's "Sunshine Award."
Throughout his life, Raymond was a member of his local LCMS church. He served many years as an elder, and faithfully attended services every Sunday. His last church home was Resurrection Lutheran Church in Spring, Texas. Raymond enjoyed swimming, reading, and visiting museums. His favorite pastime was visiting with family and friends, and especially, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
