Ray Wilson Youngblood, age 92, of The Woodlands, TX passed away peacefully on
September 20, 2023. He is survived by his daughter, Janet Youngblood, his daughter-in-law Christine Youngblood, and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife,
Imogene Price Youngblood and his son, Michael Youngblood.
He was born in Tulia, TX to the late Burk R. Youngblood and Jennie Lucile Wilson
Youngblood. He served his country as a Captain in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He graduated from Texas Tech University and went on to receive his Master of Public
Administration degree with a major in accounting from the University of Texas. He was a
Certified Public Accountant for over six decades. He worked for the Houston Chronicle
for over 30 years and was the Treasurer at the time of his retirement. Ray was responsible
for bringing the Chronicle into the electronic age. When he started in the accounting
department, they were still posting ledgers in pen and ink and did most of their analyses
on ten-column pads. He purchased the first electronic 10-column adding machine and
eventually moved their financial systems to computers. He was inducted as an Honorary
Member of the International Newspaper Financial Executives for supporting the
organization and making significant contributions to the newspaper industry for over 30
years.
He will be laid to rest in the Houston National Cemetery. A private Celebration of Life
will be held for family and friends.
