Ray Robert (Bob) Durrett, 85, of Spring, Texas passed from this life on 11/12/2024. Dr. Durrett was born on 12/27/1938 to Ray Merle Durrett and Hazel Alverta Smith in Charleston, West Virginia.
Bob was educated in the public schools of Charleston, West Virginia. He then attended Duke University as a pre-med student. He earned a Phi Beta Kappa key as a junior and entered Duke University Medical School after only 3 years of pre-med studies. Bob graduated from medical school in 1963. He then completed Internship/Residency and a Fellowship in Nephrology in 1966 at Duke University.
Bob married Sue Ann (Leyrer) Durrett on 3/5/1966 in Durham, North Carolina, and moved to San Antonio, Texas to serve in the U.S. Air Force for 2 years at Wilford Hall. In July 1969, Bob and Sue relocated to Houston, Texas where Bob started his medical career as a Board-Certified Internal Medicine physician specializing in Nephrology. In 1984, he and additional physician partners founded Plaza Nephrology Internal Medicine as well as a dialysis center.
After 24 years of running a successful practice and dialysis center, Bob transitioned to serving as Medical Director for Davita Kidney Care before retiring in 2009.
In addition to practicing medicine, Bob enjoyed riding his horses with his family and friends at the Texas Range Riders Equestrian club, and he served on the Board of Directors for Chasewood Bank, continuously, since its founding in 1983.
