Raul graduated from Hondo High School where he played baseball and developed his love for sports. He subsequently graduated from The University of Texas at Austin while a leader with UT's Hispanic Business Student Association (HBSA) and remained a diehard Longhorn and sports fan who loved attending events with family and friends.
