Our beloved Raisa, a cherished grandmother, mother, widow, and dear friend to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 23, 2024, surrounded by her favorites— family, love, and music.

Born on August 30, 1938, in Minsk, Belarus, Raisa was a woman of remarkable talents and boundless spirit. The eldest of three siblings, she grew up in Gomel, southern Belarus, where she explored a multitude of interests, from gymnastics and art to acting and sewing. Yet, it was music that truly captured her heart. She excelled as a pianist and vocalist, and her popular concerts were broadcast on the local radio station.

Her love for music also led her to her soulmate, Vladimir, a renowned soloist at the Belarus State Opera House. Together, they built a life filled with joy and harmony in Minsk. Despite her deep connection to music, Raisa eventually pursued a career in civil engineering, in which her dedication and passion along with her gentle yet powerful communication style made her an esteemed instructor, respected by colleagues and cherished by students alike.

Raisa's life was a testament to resilience, love, and creativity. She balanced her career and family with grace and warmth, touching countless lives along the way. Her home was always filled with music, laughter, and love—a testament to the generous spirit that defined her.

But what Raisa really loved more than anything else in the world is life, and, she treasured most in life was her family, her friends, and her students. Above all, she valued the relationships she had with each and every person that was a part of her life. More than anything else, she loved being a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She truly reveled in her family's love, always giving back more than she took.

She is survived by her two devoted daughters, Natalia McGrath and Tatiana Green, both of Houston, Texas; her beloved grandchildren, Alexander (of Minsk), Lauren McGrath (of Houston), and Sebastian "David" Soudry (of Wimberley); and preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her dear husband Vladimir and her beloved son-in-law, Robert ("Bob") D. Green.

Raisa was more than just a loving wife of over 50 years, a devoted mother, and a doting grandmother/great-grandmother—she was the epitome of kindness, positivity, and joy. Her vibrant spirit, infectious laughter, and enduring love for her family will remain in our hearts forever. While her absence leaves an irreplaceable void, we take comfort in knowing that she is now among the angels, reunited with those she loved.

We are profoundly grateful for the overwhelming love and support we have received during this time of loss.  As we celebrate Raisa's extraordinary life, we hold her in our hearts with love, gratitude, and cherished memories.
