Phillip Charles Pickens, 79, of Magnolia, TX, passed away peacefully on July 31st, 2024, surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with cancer.

Born on March 9th, 1945, in Alliance, Nebraska, to Wilson and Helen Pickens, Phil led a life marked by dedication, service, and love. After graduating from Jacksonville High School in 1963, he pursued higher education before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1968. For four years, Phil served as a Radio Operator aboard the USS Trippe, contributing to the nation's defense during the Vietnam War, with deployments to multiple ports along the west and east coasts, as well as the Gulf of Mexico.

In 1967, Phil met the love of his life, Linda, in Jacksonville, TX. They married in 1968 and spent 57 wonderful years together, 52 of which were in the Houston area. Their union was blessed with two sons, Doug and Greg, who were the light of his life.

In the early 1980s, Phil founded his own business, demonstrating the entrepreneurial spirit, vision, and leadership that would define his professional career. Under his guidance, the company flourished, earning a reputation for excellence and integrity in the industry. Phil was deeply respected by colleagues, clients, and employees alike, known for his strong work ethic, innovative approach, and unwavering commitment to quality. After a distinguished career marked by success and accomplishment, Phil retired in 2015, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and respect.

After retiring, Phil devoted much of his time to road racing, a passion he eagerly shared with his sons and friends. The time spent on the track became some of his most cherished moments, filled with competition, camaraderie, and the joy of being surrounded by those he loved. In addition to racing, Phil also indulged his love for classic cars, carefully curating a collection that reflected his deep appreciation for automotive history. He found immense joy in sharing this passion with his family, whether it was taking his loved ones for a drive or simply gathering together to admire the beauty and craftsmanship of his prized vehicles.

Phil and Linda also embarked on numerous travels across the U.S. and abroad, exploring new places and creating unforgettable memories together. Their journeys were filled with adventure, discovery, and the joy of experiencing different cultures, often accompanied by the warmth of friendships made along the way. Whether cruising down scenic American highways or exploring the historic streets of European cities, Phil and Linda cherished these moments of shared discovery, deepening their bond and enriching their lives with each new destination.

Phil was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Wilson and Helen Pickens, as well as his brother, Dick Pickens. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 57 years, Linda, who stood by his side through every joy and challenge. Phil is also survived by his two sons, Doug and his wife Erika of Dallas, TX, and Greg and his wife Tiffany of Chicago, IL, along with his cherished granddaughters, Payeton and Tayelor, who brought him immense pride and joy.

Phil's love for his family was boundless and unwavering. He was a dedicated husband, a nurturing father, and a proud grandfather who took immense joy in their achievements and well-being. His sons, Doug and Greg, were the center of his world, and he raised them with strong values, guiding them to become the accomplished and honorable men they are today. Phil's legacy of love, strength, and integrity lives on in his family, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.

A service to celebrate Phil's life will be held on August 6th, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Klein Funeral Home in Magnolia, TX.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Phil's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
