Philip David Harkins of Houston, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021.
Born in Asheville, North Carolina, Phil moved to Pasadena, Texas, after graduating from Western Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. A brilliant polyurethane chemist, he retired from Dow Chemical in 1995 after 30 years of formulating products for the automotive, residential, military, and aerospace industries. Post-retirement, he developed patented polyurethane roofing products as the Senior Scientist with Bay Systems/Bayer Corporation.
A devoted father and grandfather, Phil loved spending time with his wife of 47 years, Minerva, restoring old cars and keeping his mind sharp with calculus and differential equations.
Patient, kind, and considerate of others, he will be dearly missed.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Blanche Harkins, his brother, Charles Harkins, and sister-in-law, Mary Harkins. He is survived by his wife Minerva Harkins, his daughter and son-in-law, Jacqueline (Albert) Guerrero, grandchildren, Caroline (Scott) Wiesmann, Juliana Guerrero, and great-grandson Teddy Wiesmann.
