Penelope "Penny" Smith Brockman
March 25, 1942-September 13, 2020
Penelope "Penny" Smith Brockman passed away on September 13th, 2020. Penny was born to Edward and Charlotte Smith of EImhurst, Illinois. She is preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by her sisters Kathleen Koch, Lynn Sefcovic and Elaine Carlson. Her son Chris Brockman and grandsons Keane and Corwyn. She is also survived by numerous friends and co-workers who enjoyed her company.
Penny was an avid lover of being outdoors from an early age. Her young adult years were spent on the family farm with horses. This continued throughout her life as she transitioned into motherhood and became an active cub scout leader with her son Chris. Her love for being out in nature meant Penny frequently could be found spending time working in her yard or visiting the beaches of Galveston. One of her most favorite memories was a trip to Alaska with her sisters and how amazing the sites were.
Animals have always had a special place in Penny's heart. She never met a dog she didn't fall instantly in love with and she cared for all God's critters. She was fascinated by bird calls and studied to learn to identify the calls of local species. She gave to organizations like the SPCA and Wildlife Federation among other notable animal charities.
Penny enjoyed simple pleasures. As her grandsons got older, her Saturday mornings during the summer would be spent hanging out at Keane and Corwyn's swim meets. Her evenings showed a life of contentment at home in Magnolia. She had made her house into a home for herself that she was pleased with. She enjoyed quiet evenings with her neighbors and dogs and loved to end her day with a cold drink and good conversation.
