Peggy O'Brien Watson, born October 21, 1922 in Amarillo, Texas to Will and Exie O'Brien, was the youngest of the family's eight children.  Peggy grew up in Amarillo, then went to Gulf Park to finish high school, and went on to the University of Texas in Austin where she met the love of her live, Robert Eugene Watson.  Peggy was a member of the KAT sorority and Rob a DKE, and they met at a "mixer" where Rob saw Peggy for the first time and told his fraternity brother, "I think I've found the one I'm going to marry!"  And that they did...March 14, 1944, just after Rob returned to the states after serving as a Navy Lieutenant JG on the USS Maryland during WWII.

When the newlyweds began their married life, they first lived in Houston, TX where Rob began his geological career with Humble Oil Company, and their daughter Patricia (Patti) was born in 1947.  Peggy was a member of the Junior League in Houston, and volunteered as a "Gray Lady" at the children's hospital during those early years, then Rob was transferred to New Orleans and they moved their family to Metairie, LA where their son Robert (Bob) was born in 1949.  Peggy continued her involvement with the Junior League in New Orleans, and also took up the game of golf, a love that she shared with Rob and tried (unsuccessfully in the early years) to instill in their children.  Peggy also found her artistic muse while living in New Orleans, and painted some lovely oils of the ancient oaks that resided there, as well as still-life subjects and landscapes that adorned their walls at home.

In 1958 Rob was transferred again, this time to Corpus Christi, Texas. Peggy was once more involved with the Junior League in her new home town, and served as President of that organization as well as serving as an officer with the Ladies Golf Association at the Corpus Christi Country Club for several years.  She also found a love of fishing in the salt waters of the gulf, and she and two of her friends even bought a small motor boat they dubbed "Le Girls" that they fished from in Corpus Christi Bay.

The Watson house was always the one that Patti and Bob's friends called their second home.  There was rarely a night that at least one extra place wasn't set at the dinner table, and a gaggle of kids often gathered in the family's garage shooting pool or filled the family den sharing popcorn and watching TV.   Peggy was often the adult that Patti and her friends "kidnapped" to take them to wrap a friend's house that was too far away to reach on foot. On weekends she would often take Bob and his buddies to Padre Island t ride their surfboards while she fished off Bob Hall pier. The house was always filled with Peggy's music in those days, that poured forth varying genre from opera to cowboy ballads from the HiFi in the living room. It was a house full of family, friends, music, laughter and most importantly, unconditional love.

In 1967 Rob was transferred to Caracas, Venezuela where Peggy, Rob and Bob (who was a high school senior) spent nine months in residence, before returning to the states and being transferred once again to Houston. While building their first home in 1968 on the #1 green of Champions' Jack Rabbit golf course, they lived with Rob's father, Hugh Watson who was also an avid golfer with eight holes-in-one.

That same year Peggy and Rob's first granddaughter, Melanie Krista Hames was born, followed by grandson Nathan Ryan Hames, granddaughter Bonnie O'Brien Watson, and grandson Jess Michael Watson.  As years went by, Peggy and Rob moved to their second Champions home on the #18 tee box of the Cypress Creek golf course, and their great-grandchildren began to arrive.  First born was Kasey O'Brien Thomas, followed by Hanna Nicole Connery, then Kaitlyn O'Brien Hames, Chloe Marie Hames, Jones O'Brien Diego Al-Rifai, Lauren Grace Hames and Sosie Maria Al-Rifai.

Peggy was a role model for all of her family, a great source of inspiration to all of her children and the one who instilled in all of us the true meaning of unconditional love and the importance of family.  For at least two weeks of every summer, Peggy took the entire family to Amarillo, back to her family home and the house she was born in, to visit with our grandmother, aunts, uncles and cousins who were still living in Amarillo.  Trips to the family cabin in the Palo Duro Club Grounds and then off to New Mexico to spend a few days at the family's cattle ranch where parts of every summer's fondest memories. Our trips to Amarillo and the Palo Duro Club Grounds is a family tradition that continues to this day.

Peggy's beloved husband Rob passed away in November of 2003, just months away from their 60 ^th wedding anniversary, and while his passing left a huge void in the family's lives, Peggy remained in the family home, staying involved in her Champions community activities, playing gin rummy every Tuesday with "the girls" and ( as Mom told it, often the biggest winner )  serving as score keeper until the last months of her life.  Her greatest love was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored their GiGi, and will remember her warm loving hugs, candy treats and match box cars that were always in her purse, teaching them how to blow straw paper across a restaurant table, and how to climb the rock wall in their breakfast room among so many other precious memories.

In her later years, Peggy was blessed to have been under the tender loving care and attention of her caregivers, Frances Reyes, Andrea Mina and long-time care giver Olga Penida who loved her dearly and to whom the family will always be grateful.  Peggy is survived by her daughter Patricia Watson Freise and her husband Wesley; her son Robert David Watson and his wife Barbara; granddaughter Melanie Hames Connery and her husband David; grandson Nathan Ryan Hames and his wife Alisan; granddaughter Bonnie Watson Al-Rifai and her husband Gabe; grandson Jess Michael Watson; step-grandson Wayne Freise and his children Wyatt and Shiloh; step-granddaughter Morgan Connery, and all of the great-grandchildren previously mentioned by name as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will all miss her greatly and love her forever.
