The family of Pauline Eunice (Rescott) Green of Cypress, Texas, is saddened to announce that our beloved wife and mother passed away at the age of 85 the evening of Friday, August 16, 2024.
Pauline was born on July 21, 1939 at her grandparents' house on their gladiola farm, the fifth child of seven born to Eunice Louise and Clyde Warren Rescott, Sr. As a girl growing up in West Sand Lake, NY, she was known as "Paunnie". She had a paper route with her older sister Marion and much to her mother's chagrin, would spend too much of her earnings on candy. She was a cheerleader and a Student Official while attending Averill Park Central High School.
She then took a 48-week executive secretarial course at Albany Business College and graduated with highest honors "because she could take shorthand dictation at 170wpm". Later, this skill would frustrate her young daughters when her Christmas and birthday shopping lists were all written in shorthand. She continued her education in Albany, earning a degree in business education from Albany State Teachers College, all while working as a secretary for C.A. Wicks Insurance Agency. She went on to teach high school business at Heatly High School in Green Island, NY.
Pauline met Dennis Green of Mechanicville, NY in 1963 when her friend Gloria Green's (Hughes) younger brother Dennis was along to drive her to a Protestant Young Adults meeting. Pauline thought that he should not be driving his Triumph TR3 all by himself. They dated and were married June 27, 1964. Their family was started in Ocean Gate, NJ with the birth of their first daughter Megan. After moving to Peekskill, New York, daughter Cindy was born, so she became a stay-at-home mom and Girl Scout leader. Pauline enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines women's barbershop chorus while in Peekskill, even traveling to London, England with her chapter for an international competition. The family moved to Hopewell Junction, New York, in 1979 where she resumed teaching business skills at Hudson Valley Industrial Opportunities Center.
Pauline and Dennis and their daughter Cindy moved to Houston, Texas in 1987 where she taught at Doolin Technical College, then Texas School of Business for fifteen years. After retirement she regularly walked in the morning and enjoyed meeting people at twice-weekly exercise at the Weekley Community Center. Pauline was an active member of Bear Creek Methodist Church where she attended bible study, sang in the Women's Ensemble, and served at church with Interfaith Care Partners - an Alzheimer's support group. In 1995, she went on a church building mission trip to Costa Rica. Every year she and her fellow Ruth Circle members made habanero pickles in her kitchen for the annual bazaar, which always promptly sold out while ensuring the house smelled like pickles for several days.
Pauline and Dennis celebrated their milestone 60th wedding anniversary in June 2024.
Pauline is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dennis C. Green of Cypress, Texas; her sister Eunice A. Rescott of White River Junction, Vermont; two daughters, Megan E. Green of Astoria Queens, New York and Cynthia L. Lovell of Odessa, Texas; son-in-law, Joseph Lovell; two granddaughters, Kristina Arnold and Morgan Ashley; and one great-grandson, Alduin Ashley. She is predeceased by her sisters Marion Sagendorf and Phyllis Rescott; brothers Clyde Rescott, Jr, Frederick Rescott, and Eugene Rescott; and grandson Joseph "Deuce" Lovell, Jr.
