Paula Joyce Low was born on April 13, 1929, to William 'Bill' Elzie & Gertrude Matthews Low in Geneva, TX, and passed away peacefully September 2, 2017. Paula attended San Augustine High School where she graduated as Valedictorian in 1946. Those who met her knew that she was a sweet, gentle person with a beautiful smile, twinkling eyes, and a heart full of love and compassion. She would help all who asked and lived her life with integrity and grace. If you knew her for long, you would discover she was a biblical scholar. She studied The Bible and the historical constructs around it with great attention to detail and lived by its message of sacrificial service and unconditional love. Paula received both bachelor's and master's degrees by the time she was 21. The love of her life, Paul Maurice Beauchamp of Milam, TX, joined Paula at Stephen F. Austin State College. Paul was fond of saying, "She was the best thing that ever happened to me," and "She is the finest woman on God's green earth." While attending Stephen F. Austin, she was elected Miss SFA and served as President of her sorority. One of Paula's great gifts and joys was studying grammar. Throughout her life she was a voracious reader, reading across a broad variety of subjects from history to philosophy to great works of literature. Her thoughtful and eloquent letters are treasures to the many friends and family who received them. She found great pleasure in completing the New York Times crossword puzzle each day up until the final month of her life. Paula was a deeply devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 'Grandmom' was deeply loved and will be dearly missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The happiness and welfare of her family was her first priority. She was also a wonderful cook, tirelessly planning and cooking delicious Thanksgiving and Christmas meals for large family gatherings well into her 80's.

After college, she taught English and Spanish at Jasper High School. She married Paul Beauchamp on February 14th, 1953. They moved to Houston, where he served in the USAF as an air traffic controller at Ellington Air Force Base. While in Houston, Paula taught English at Galena Park High School and worked at Humble Oil as a proofreader for an executive. After Paul's service to the Airforce was complete, they lived in several different towns in Texas and Louisiana following his career with Gulf Supply. In 1972 they moved to Northwest Houston where she lived until her death. Soon after moving to Houston, Paul & Paula joined Cypress United Methodist Church. A church she loved and to which she dedicated her time and talents as long as her health would allow. She taught children's Sunday School for many decades. She was very involved with United Methodist Women and UMC missions. She led a church-wide Caring Ministry for many years. Paula was a life-long learner, as well as natural teacher. She was a loyal and trusted friend.

Paula was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 63 years, and her beloved son-in-law, Jay Chenoweth. Paul and Paula raised four children whom they loved very much and who love them very much. She leaves behind her children: son Dr. Ray Beauchamp and his wife Ann, son Bob Beauchamp and his wife Laura, daughter Virginia Gray and her husband Melvin, and daughter Mary Chenoweth; grandchildren: Rachel Beauchamp, Paul Beauchamp and his wife Bronwyn, Lee Beauchamp, Jack Beauchamp and his wife Hayley, Tom Beauchamp and his wife Christina, George Beauchamp, Jim Beauchamp, John Chenoweth and his wife Courtney, and William Chenoweth; great grandchildren: Evelyn Elizabeth Chenoweth and Walker Ray Beauchamp. Paula's beloved younger siblings, sister Mary Lou Low of Houston, and brother Buddy Low of Beaumont are also left to cherish her memory, along with her nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive visitors Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Klein Funeral Home 1400 West Main Street, Tomball, Texas from 5:00-8:00pm. There will be a private family burial at the McGown Family Cemetery in Milam, TX. A Memorial Service is planned for Monday, September 25, 2017 at Cypress United Methodist Church, Cypress, Texas at noon. In lieu of usual remembrances, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to Cypress United Methodist Church 13403 Cypress N. Houston Rd., Cypress, Texas 77429 or to the Paul and Paula Beauchamp Scholarship Fund at Stephen F. Austin, P.O. Box 6096 Nacogdoches, TX 75962.
