Paul E. Reed, 86, of Tomball, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2023 in Houston, Texas.
He was born on September 13, 1936 in McArthur, Ohio to Clarence Reed and Margaret (Abele) Reed. He spent his childhood in McArthur and graduated from McArthur High School in 1954. He attended Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and the University of Houston.
While vacationing in London, Ontario, Paul met Alma Lee Fears. A chance meeting through a mutual friend became a romance, and they married in Houston on October 31, 1957. They then set about building a life and a family together—raising four children, travelling around the country and the world, sharing life's delights, and supporting each other through life's challenges.
Paul briefly worked in the energy industry before seeking an opportunity at Gulf Coast Honda—a job that allowed him to combine his interest in business with his love of motorcycles and eventually open a dealership of his own. He later established a game room and billiards equipment store in northwest Houston and spent the latter part of his career with the Billiard Factory. In these endeavors, Paul sought to help his customers pursue enjoyable hobbies and create memorable experiences with friends and family—things he valued in his personal life as well.
Although a man of few words, Paul was also a man of much action, whether piloting small airplanes, scuba diving, riding motorcycles, or driving his car a little too fast (even by Houstonian standards). In retirement, Paul and Alma spent several years traveling the country in an RV, before returning to the Houston area. Paul was known to enjoy the company of a good book, and never missed an Astros game if he could help it.
Paul is survived by his wife of nearly sixty-six years, Alma Lee (Fears) Reed; his children Paula Reed Khalaf (Tariq Khalaf) and Darren Reed (Debbie) of Houston, Ty Reed (Judy Hudson) of Eureka Springs, Ark., and Cory Reed (Missi) of Austin; his grandchildren Alan Khalaf and Joseph Khalaf of Houston, and Paul Gilbert (Allison) and Mark Gilbert of Oklahoma City, Okla.; his brother Gaylord Reed (Carol) of Columbus, Ohio; and many other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his sister Mary Jo Pyke.
In keeping with Paul's wishes, there will be no funeral. Paul's remains will be cremated, with the ashes to be scattered at a later date in a place meaningful to him. A memorial service to celebrate Paul and the life he lived will take place Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 1:30 pm at the Spring Hill Suites Houston Northwest, 20303 Chasewood Park Drive, Houston, TX, 77070.
