Patsy Burline Stuckey Smith, 84, passed away unexpectedly on May 19, 2026, at her home in Spring, Texas.

Patsy was born on December 7, 1941, in Columbia, Mississippi, to the late Robert Henry Stuckey and Charline May Barnett. She was raised in Bunker Hill, Mississippi, by her father and stepmother, Ola Mae Stuckey, and had the honor of being the only girl among five brothers. She loved growing up in a large family, spoke fondly of her childhood, and often shared how caring her brothers were toward her.

While attending Bunker Hill High School, she met the love of her life, William Syvoid Smith.  Through their 58-year marriage, Patsy and William created a legacy that continues through their four children, ten grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Faith and service were central to Patsy's life. She often told stories of the family's adventures while traveling through her husband's military assignments to Florida, Connecticut, Virginia, California, Scotland, and Panama. During their time overseas in Scotland and Panama, Patsy served as an ombudsman, supporting military wives, spouses, and children. She was also active in the Salvation Army church and the Wives' Club.

Patsy faithfully served for many years as a Sunday school teacher and especially loved teaching two- and three-year-olds.  Her servant's heart later inspired her to help begin a quilting ministry at Houston Northwest Church more than twenty years ago.  Having made her first quilt in her twenties, Patsy created more than fifty handmade quilts for family and close friends, many featuring countless hours of intricate stitching and embroidery. Through the quilting ministry, she and fellow volunteers also created hundreds of quilts that were distributed to local and international mission efforts.  She continued quilting almost daily until her passing.

Above all else, Patsy treasured her family. She spent countless hours driving children to ball practices, choir and orchestra rehearsals, piano lessons, church services, youth activities, and school events. As a grandmother, "Nanny" delighted in taking her grandchildren to the park and swimming, and she could often be found at the table playing card games, dominoes, or Chinese checkers with them. In later years, her grandchildren cherished visiting her and listening to her stories. Her home and heart were always open.

Patsy is survived by her children: Steven Syvoid Smith and wife, Sharon; David Wayne Smith; Karyn Darlene Lipsey; and Patty DeLynn Henson and husband, Erik; Her grandchildren: Sam Lipsey; Darlene Lipsey Gander and husband, Daniel; DJ Smith; Connor Smith; Rebekah Lipsey and husband, JW Shoemaker; Julia Smith; Ephraim Henson; Liam Henson; Callum Henson; and Levi Henson. Her great-grandchildren: Grace Gander; Anthony Brian; Joanna Gander; Atlas Gander; Georgia Shoemaker; Samuel Smith; Jerel Wayne Shoemaker III; and Amari Coon.

She is also survived by her brother, Gordon Stuckey, along with numerous cousins, in-laws, and lifelong friends.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, William Syvoid Smith; son-in-law, Les Lipsey, and her brothers, Robert Stuckey, Jr., Frederick Basye, Jr., William Earl Basye, and Kenneth Basye.
