Obituary

Patsy Ruth Cunningham went home to be with the Lord on October 15, 2022.

Patsy was born at home in Waxahachie, Texas on September 16, 1935 to Alfred Boyd and Maude Alice Couch.  One of 5 children, she grew up in Texas City, Texas where her father was the postmaster. Patsy was a survivor of the 1947 Texas City explosion that claimed the lives of her parents.  She was subsequently raised there by her maternal grandmother Mur. Patsy graduated from Texas City High School and attended Texas Women's University.  In 1955, Patsy married her high school sweetheart Norman Cunningham and they would enjoy 54 years of marriage and 5 children whom they loved and supported through their academic, musical and athletic endeavors. Patsy not only nurtured her own children, but also was a substitute teacher and longtime receptionist at Jersey City High School.  She was also an excellent cook and avid University of Texas fan. She and Norman treasured any time with family and both enjoyed together, and sharing, their little place in Bolivar which was the site of many family get-togethers and reunions. In her later years, Patsy moved to Georgetown to be closer to family.  She continued to enjoy cooking, traveling and seeing her family grow.

Patsy treasured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also authored a book in her later years about the Texas City Disaster titled Triumph Over Tragedy.

Patsy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Maude, siblings, Tennie, Boyd, Alice, and Doris, her loving husband Norman, and her son Tim. She is survived by her son Kelly and daughter-in-law Kimie, daughter Teri, and son-in-law Steve, son Danny and daughter-in-law Sandy, son Doug and daughter-in-law Anita, 9 grandchildren - Craig Drury(Sarah), Brittney Kinne(Jeremy), Zachary Cunningham( Jessica), Bradley Drury, Douglas Cunningham (Tiffany), David Cunningham (Emmy), Chelsea Rogers (Reed), Sarah Geha (Josh) and Michael Cunningham (Makenzie), and 17 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Anthony, and Ella Kinne,  Camryn and Harper Drury, Ava, Shay and Hazel Rogers, Presley, Hattie, Dougie and Austin Cunningham, Wells and Alden Cunningham and Parker, Benjamin and Sloan Geha.

A Graveside Service is planned for Sunday, October 23, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Klein Memorial Park, 9714 FM 2920 Tomball, Texas 77375. The entire Cunningham family is thankful for the life of their Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
