On February 21, 2025, Patricia Rosalia O'Brien Rice joined her Lord and Savior to be in heaven with her beloved husband, David. Patricia was a devoted family matriarch; loved by all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great great-children. She was born in St. Paul, KS to William F. and Lucy O'Brien on April 20, 1932, where she was affectionately known as Patsy Rose. She graduated from St. Francis High School in 1950.
After high school, she studied nursing at St. Joseph School of Nursing, Wichita. There, she met and fell in love with a young airman from McConnel Air Force Base named David Walter Rice, Sr. They were married at All Saints Catholic Church, Wichita on December 27, 1952. After a short career as a nurse, she dedicated her life to caring for their five children: Cindy Busby White (Roy), Dave Rice, Jr. (Andrea), John Rice (Linda), Tom Rice (Rosey), and Doug Rice (Mary).
Patricia and David moved to Overland Park, KS in 1977. David passed away on September 23, 1986 and Patricia lived there until 2005. After spending a year with her sister, Marguerite McClung in Springfield, MO, Patricia moved back to Wichita, KS. In 2019, Patricia moved to the Spring, TX area, where she passed away of natural causes at 92 years old.
Patricia is survived by her five children; ten grandchildren (Carrie Busby Jones, Joe Busby, Amy Busby Martel, Rachel Rice, Michael Rice, Brenda Rice, Robert Pierot, Evan Pierot, Luke Rice and Garrett Rice) and her many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and four sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to be made to St Francis Catholic Church (208 Washington St., St. Paul, KS 66771) or Pancreatic Cancer at https://pancan.org/ways-to-give/ (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network).
Services will be held Friday, February 28, 2025 at St. Anne's Catholic Church, 1111 S. Cherry St., Tomball, TX 77375. Viewing will be at 9:30 AM, Rosary at 10:00 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM.
Graveside services will be held March 29, 2025 at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 8300 Quivira Road, Lenexa, Kansas 66215 at 11:00 AM. All are welcome to attend.
Patricia was dedicated to her family, devoted to the Catholic Church, and she will be greatly missed.
