Obituary

Orval Dale Peterson was a farm boy, a serviceman, a husband, and a father, as well as a friend to many. He was a kind and generous man with a gentle spirit, a generous heart and an unending faith in God.

He was born in 1928 in Saratoga Township, Illinois, the second of Bernard and Edna Peterson's six children. In his youth, he worked as a farm hand and saved his earnings for little luxuries like a bicycle, art supplies, and even flying lessons.

After Graduating from Morris Community High School in 1947, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force ten days before it became the United States Air Force. He served as a clerk in the 41st Troop Carrier Squadron during the occupation of Japan, and later supported the Berlin Airlift.

Returning to civilian life, he worked for a while selling baked goods door to door before beginning a career with Western Electric, later AT&T, as a telephone equipment installer.

He married Judy Beldin in 1963. They had two daughters, Lorri and Jill, and a son, Tim. After the death of his sister, Doris, they welcomed his two nieces, Cheri and Val, into the household.

Throughout his life, his Christian faith and service to the church were very important to him. As a young man, he taught Sunday school and joined the choir. His love of traditional hymns never wavered. Even when struggling for breath, he couldn't resist singing along.

Those who knew Orval remember him for his cheerful attitude and sunny disposition. No matter what challenges he faced, he had a smile and a cheerful word for everyone he met. He never failed to make friends. Even at 95 with his body failing him, he became every nurse's favorite patient.

He was a devoted husband, a patient and loving father and a devoted grandfather. His absence will leave a hole in the heart of his family and friends.
