1945-2016   Olon Robert Nelson

Olon Robert (Bob) Nelson of Spring, Texas, passed from this Earth to join His Heavenly Father on August 26, 2016 at the age of 71 after a lengthy illness. Born in Brownwood, Texas on February l, 1945 to his parents, Olon Robert Nelson, Sr. and Mildred Mahaney Nelson. He was preceded in death by both parents and son, Shawn Nelson.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Peggy, of 42 years, his son, Lance, daughter-in-law, Laura, grandsons Connor and Nolan of Houston, daughter, Brooke Nelson of Charlotte, NC, daughter Stephanie Nelson, sisters Kay Davis and Susie Hughes of Fort Worth. He was a member of the Klein United Methodist Church.

He graduated from Haltom City High School in Fort Worth in l963 where he lettered in track, football, baseball and basketball. His senior year he was voted "Most Athletic" and received All State District Football, Basketball and Baseball awards. Sports had always been an integral part of his life and upon graduation attended TCU on a full football scholarship. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity.

An ROTC member, he committed to the United States Air Force upon graduation from TCU. He attended Flight School and graduated with honors from Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. He then was assigned to Dyess AFB in Abilene, where he trained flying T-37 & T-38 aircrafts. His final training assignment was KC-136 aircrafts in California. A strong believer in service to his country he flew in numerous combat missions in SE Asia from 1968-1973 and was Commander and Captain of his assigned KC-135 aircraft. He and his crew re-fueled over 1,000 aircrafts over South Vietnam, Thailand, Guan and Okinawa.

After completing his distinguished Air Force service, he entered the private sector and had a highly successful career as a Regional Vice President of Office Solutions Sales.

Upon retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren and two cherished rescue puppies, Lilly and Bowie. Visitation Contributions may be made to the ASPCA.org or the Humane Society International- his.org.
