Dr. Ollie Mae Gatewood, age 81, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2020 surrounded by family. Ollie was born in Staley, TX on December 7, 1938.Her family relocated to Houston as a young girl. Ollie attended Jeff Davis High School in Houston. In 1955, her son, James was born. On many of her walks with the baby, she caught the eye of Kenneth Gatewood who fell madly in love with her. That began a love affair and marriage that spanned over 60 years, and in 1962 she gave birth their daughter, Karen. The family made their home in Houston until their retirement when she relocated to The Woodlands, Texas.

Ollie worked for Texaco for 25 years in the credit department before retiring to study medicine. She received her Master's degree from Houston Baptist University and attended the American University of the Caribbean Medical School where she earned her Medical degree. Ollie did her Family Medicine residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center - St Joseph Campus. During her residency, she was fortunate to work with renowned heart surgery, Dr. Denton Cooley. Dr. Gatewood began her career as a physician working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and later joined the Veteran's Administration in College Station, Texas before retiring in 2015. She was a respected physician and cared deeply for her patients.

Ollie loved to travel extensively and enjoyed spoiling her great grandchildren. She spent much of her later years caring for her husband and continuing her path into real estate and investing. She was a compassionate and loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother.

Dr. Gatewood was preceded in death by her mother and father, Vergie and Lawrence Williams, brother, Charles Williams, sister Mary Walker, and husband Kenneth Gatewood. She is survived by her son James Gatewood, Sr., daughter Karen Artigue and husband Paul, grandsons, James Gatewood, Jr., Derek Sawyers and William Sawyers, great grandsons, Kenneth James Gatewood and Austin Gatewood as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends. Burial service will be conducted in Oakhurst, TX at Mt. Capers Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
