Wayne "Norris" Onstead

Norris went to be with Jesus on December 26 after a brief illness. He was a wonderful pastor, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His last two years were spent at Sycamore Ranch Creek, a place he loved and where he was a friend to everyone.

He was born in Littlefield, Texas to Irvin and Ollie Onstead. He married his high school sweetheart, Ella "Maxine" Johnson and they were married for 74 years. They had one child, Janith Miller of Houston.

Norris worked with his dad at Onstead Furniture, a family business, in Littlefield and it was there that he felt God calling him to be His preacher. Norris, Maxine and three year old Janith moved to Abilene where he graduated from Hardin-Simmons University, and then went on to graduate from Southwestern Baptist Seminary In Ft Worth, Tx.

He pastored Baptist churches all over Texas, including Plainview, Stamford, Swenson, Saint Jo, Anson, Phillips, Amarillo, and Killeen.

After retiring, he was a real estate agent in Houston for a few years, often earning awards for best seller of the year. He was a member of Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston. Associate Pastors, Bill Elliott and Ed Ethridge became his close friends that he so admired and looked forward to their visits.

He is preceded in death by his father, Irvin Onstead, mother, Ollie Onstead, and brother, Charles Randall ("Ronnie").

He is survived by his wife Maxine; daughter Janith and her husband Jim Miller; sister Jean Gilreath of Dimmitt; two granddaughters Katrina Penley, Krystal Esparza; six great grandchildren including Madison Penley, Maddox Penley, Mayson Penley, Tristan Ramos, Hadley Esparza, Sophia Esparza; nieces Donna Jean Vee, Judy Pierce, Sandra Onstead, Gail Peace, Kathy Onstead. He was so proud of his family that had their pictures all over his room. He loved showing them off to any and everyone!

Norris was a friend to everyone that would allow it and was most appreciative of anything anyone did for him. He continued to serve the Lord with his caring and charismatic personality.

"Well done, my good and faithful servant...Enter into the joy of your Lord." Matthew 25:23.

The family will receive friends and family from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M on December 30 at Klein Funeral Home, 16131 Champion Forest, Spring, Texas 77379

A service will be held in the chapel at the Klein Memorial Park, 9714 FM 2920, Tomball, Texas 77375. Rev. Ed Ethridge will be officiating.
