Norman Frederic Byers was born in Arkansas City, Kansas on June 21, 1926 to Charles and Rilla Byers and passed away on February 15, 2021 at the age of 94 years and 8 months.

Norman served in the Navy from October 1944 to July 1946 as an Electronic Technician's Mate Second Class.  After serving in the Navy, Norman returned to Arkansas City where he attended Arkansas City Junior College for 2 years before moving to Chicago to attend Northwestern University.  Norman obtained both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees from Northwestern.  He taught statistics for five years at Northwestern, then moved to Houston, Texas and taught economics for four years at the University of Houston. He then moved his family to Ruston, Louisiana where he taught economics and statistics for 28 years and earned his Doctor of Philosophy, Economics degree from Louisiana Tech University. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed spending Friday nights playing bridge with neighbors. Norman would also stop what he was doing  when anyone called needing  assistance to fix a broken electronic device. There are countless number of crossword puzzles from the Wall Street Journal that he consistently completed. Upon retirement Norman and Cora moved to Spring, Texas to enjoy being with family and watching their grandchildren and great grandchildren grow and play. He was the man behind the video camera whenever his grandchildren were involved in an activity or performing.

Norman is survived by his wife of 70 years Cora and their three daughters: Elizabeth (Richard) Schmidt, Carolyn Robins and Tricia (Dave) Kingdon. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: David (Chrystie) Schmidt, Jennifer (Jim) Reed, Andrew Schmidt, Brandon (Ashley) Robins, Heather Robins, Ross Kingdon and Kelly Kingdon.  Additionally he is survived by six great grandchildren: Caleigh and Alyse Schmidt, Cole Robins, and Robert, Stephen, and Thomas Reed. Norman loved sitting and enjoying the chaos of his family.

Norman is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Rilla, his brother Edwin and his son Doug.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Home Place of Texas in Spring, Texas or to any charitable organization of your choosing.
