Nola Nell Ebner, age 88, of Spring, TX, formerly a long-time resident of San
Antonio, TX passed away at 3:00am on March 4,2019.

Nola Nell Mattiza Ebner was born on August 21,1930 in Carmine, TX. She was the
beloved wife for 62 years to the late Eldie E. Ebner, devoted mother of Patricia
Ebner, Jimmy Ebner and his wife Joan Ebner. And she was the loving "Nanny" to
grandchildren Lisa Ebner and Michael Ebner, and to the great-grandchildren Alicia
Ebner and Caleb Ebner.

Nola met the love of her life, Eldie E. Ebner in Houston Texas at the Bill Maraz
Dance Hall, and on June 5, 1948 they were married in Giddings, Texas. At that time,
Eldie was already enlisted in the Army and together they served their country for 20
years. The military life that Eldie had chosen enabled them to start their life
together in El Paso, Tx and during the remaining years of service, Eldie was
stationed in Japan twice and Hawaii once. Nola was able to join him while he was
stationed in El Paso, TX and again in 1957 the entire family, which now consisted of
daughter Patricia and son Jimmy, they were stationed in Yokohama, Japan. In 1959,
the couple was reassigned to Ft. Sam Houston Army base and they decided to make San
Antonio, TX their permanent residence.

Nola's career was in the food service industry. She worked her way up from a cook's
helper to the position of Head Dietician of both schools at Fort Sam Houston
Independent School District. She served in the capacity of Head Dietician for 36
years before retiring. Her dedication to her faith, her ideas of fairness, honesty
and hard work served as a constant example for her family, friends, and co-workers.
She encouraged them to strive for excellence in all aspects of their lives and
through her actions, demonstrated the true meaning and rewards of hard work.

In addition to caring for her family and working for FSHISD, she also enjoyed such
activities as traveling with Eldie, her brother June, his wife Lorene, her sister
Frieda and her husband Melton. During these trips, they visited Canada, and most of
the western and lower states in the US. She also had a passion for line dancing and
walking, both of these activities she engaged in after she retired. She also
enjoyed shopping, crocheting, and of course cooking (especially trying out new
recipes or inventing new recipes).

Nola was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was very proud of
her family and was excited to become "Nanny" to her 2 grandchildren, Lisa Ebner and
Michael Ebner. However, with the arrival of her 2 great grandchildren, Alicia Ebner
and Caleb Ebner her pride and excitement went way beyond words. Nola loved spending
extended time every summer with her grandchildren through the years and loved
holidays and family get-togethers. She was ecstatic at each and every opportunity
to spend time with her family. They were the most important people in the world to
her. She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her family. Each grandchild
or great grandchild had their own special dessert, and they knew that no matter when
they visited, that dessert would be part of the meal.

Nola and her family were devout members of Christ Lutheran church in San Antonio,
Texas for over 50 years. Nola was always by Eldie's side, both of them volunteering
at the church, helping to put together bulletins, or counting and recording
collections received each Sunday, or working on the church Finance committee. They
both spent years working, through the church, for the Meals on Wheels project.
When Eldie joined the Masons, she was right there, cooking, serving and helping him
at the Masonic Lodge. Upon moving to Spring, Tx in 2016, she joined Kinsmen Lutheran
Church, where she was an "active" member until her death. While her health
prohibited her from attending services, even towards the end of her life, Nola
without hesitation, was able to recite the Lord's prayer from beginning to end. Her
faith was strong and that is yet another attribute she has passed down to the family
that she loved very much.

Nola was known for her feisty, yet loving way, her pretty smile and her willingness
to help. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her, but particularly by her
family.

Nola was preceded in death by her loving husband Eldie, her parents Carolena (Lena)
Baach Mattiza and Emil Mattiza and her siblings Elwood Mattiza, Junius (June)
Mattiza and Frieda Mattiza Siegmund.

Family and friends will gather at the Kinsmen Lutheran Church on Saturday March
9th. Viewing begins at 9:00 am and the service will begin at 10:00am. A lunch will
be provided after the service. A graveside service will be held at Fort Sam Houston
National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX on March 11 at 9:30am.
