Nita "Sissy" Keene of Friendswood, Texas is no longer able provide snacks, iced tea, and good cheer. Her death on November 20, 2017 deprives many people of a mother, a friend, and a tireless supporter. She will be greatly missed.
Born to Glover Speer Henson and Mary Elizabeth Kizer Henson, Sissy attended high school in Liberty, Texas where she played basketball, saxophone, and ran track.
After earning a business degree from Sam Houston State Teacher's College, Sissy was working at Chevron Oil Company in Houston where she met her future husband, Jim Keene. They married in 1958, founding and leading a big, happy family until Jim's death in 2013.
A Houston-area native, Sissy was a huge Rockets and Astros fan. She made her presence felt at every sporting event she ever attended, and was proud to have seen games at both the 1995 NBA Finals and the 1992 and 2005 World Series.
After a 3-week period where she lost her home in a historic storm and learned she was terminally ill, Sissy willed her beloved Astros to the World Series championship in one last, heroic contribution to her precious state and community.
Services will be held 10am Friday, November 24, at Klein Funeral Home in Tomball.
