Nickie (Nick) Lee Laird went to be with the Lord on December 5, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 57 years, Carolyn Dahse Laird.

Nick was born on December 23, 1941, in Fort Worth, Texas to Mrs. Marguerite Butler Laird and Chester Lee Laird. Nick attended Birdville High School in Fort Worth, where he was very active in many organizations, including band and baseball and served in the student government. After graduating from Birdville H.S., Nick attended The University of Texas at Austin where he earned a BBA, MA, and JD degrees.

It was during his time at The University of Texas where he met the love of his life, Carolyn Dahse. Nick and Carolyn were married on September 4, 1965, in Austin, Texas. While Nick was completing law school, Carolyn gave birth to their daughter, Leisl Carol.

After completing law school Nick began his career at General Dynamics in the Management Intern Program in New York City, NY. After the intern program, Nick continued his career by working on Capital Hill in Washington DC, as Legislative Assistant for Congressman Bob Price and Administrative Assistant for Congressman Glenard P. Lipscomb. On August 5, 1969, Nick and Carolyn welcomed the birth of their second child, a son, Gregory Preston. After serving on Capital Hill, Nick was appointed by the Secretary of Interior to the position of Assistant to the Secretary of Interior where one of his duties was maintaining liaisons with the U.S. Congress. On September 4, 1971 , Nick and Carolyn welcomed their third child, another son, Randall Scott. Nick continued to have a successful career working in public affairs for a number of companies including Shell Oil Company, American Gas Association (VP of Public Affairs), R.J.Reynolds Industries/Aminoil. Inc. (VP Public Affairs), Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County Houston, TX (Assistant General Manager for Governmental and Public Affairs), Electric Reliability Coalition (Executive Director), and the 1990 Economic Summit of Industrialized Nations (Deputy Director of Operations). Nick then established his own firm, Laird and Associates located in the Washington DC area, where he worked on a broad range of assignments, including teaching graduate level courses as an Adjunct Professor at George Washington University, until his retirement.

Nick and Carolyn retired to their home in Spring, Texas where they enjoyed their time together traveling some, watching sports, studying the bible, going out to eat and visiting with neighbors.

Nick is survived by his three children and seven grandchildren.
