Obituary

Nelson Ashton Brown passed away on September 4, 2016 at his home. He was born and raised in Ware Neck, VA. He spent the last 40 years in Houston.

After graduating from Randolph Macon College, he served two years in the United States Army. Nelson then went on to play for the Amarillo Gold Sox, a minor league affiliate of the New York Yankees.  His career as District Manager with the Shell Oil Company spanned 24 years and led him to a dozen locations across the country.  Later he worked with Coors Brewing Company as a distributor.

Nelson was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren. In his later years he delighted in hearing their interests and activities. An avid golfer, he enjoyed hours at Champions Golf Club with friends and family. His best times on the course were with his son and grandsons. He was a lifetime sports enthusiast - a faithful Astros fan.

He will be dearly missed by his son, Samuel Nelson Brown and wife Diane; his daughter, Jennifer Shropshire and husband Bill; grandchildren, Stephen Brown and wife Kate, Nicole Chitty and husband Steven, Robert Brown and wife Kari, Emily Shropshire; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Pat, his sister Claudia Walthall and his parents Claude and Alice Brown.

Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Klein Funeral Home, Champions, where a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. If desired, contributions can be made in honor of Nelson to the American Heart Association.
