Obituary

Nelma Jones Cowser

October 7, 1937 ~ November 12, 2016

Nelma Jones Cowser was born October 7th, 1937 in San Antonio, TX, the only child of Helen Rose Davis Jones, a homemaker, and Ewing Jones, an attorney. At the age of 2 they moved to Dallas, where she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1956. She attended UT-Austin where she graduated with a degree in Elementary Education and was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. After graduation she accepted a teaching position in Corpus Christi where she met Dale Cowser. They married in 1960 after a short courtship and had 2 children, Terri and Dale Jr.

Nelma was an active PTA mom and church member at St. John's UMC (Corpus Christi) for many years, and after Dale's untimely death in 1983, Nelma went on to complete her Masters degree in Education and her secondary teaching certificate, which led to teaching positions at both the Jr. High and High School level with Corpus Christi ISD. She retired in 1995 and moved to Wimberley, Texas. After several years of hill country living, she moved to The Woodlands to be closer to Terri, Dale and their families. In 2007 moved to Cypress where she became involved in many activities within Good Shepherd UMC, volunteered at Danish Elementary, Cypress Ranch High School and others within the district. She was a lifelong seamstress and quilter, an avid reader, an animal lover, Texas Longhorn fan, and a world traveler. She loved baking and cooking for friends and family, attending her grandchildren's activities, spending time with Loki (her cat), and treating herself to manicures. But her real love in life was making others happy, being a Mom to Terri, Bill, Dale and Anna, and being Mimi to her 4 grandchildren. Joshua, who followed in her footsteps as a teacher at Cypress Ranch High School, Emily, who is a professional dancer in New York, Ty, a Jr. Civil Engineering major at Texas A&M University, and Colton, a Jr. baseball player at Cypress Ranch.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, November 16th, from Six to Eight O'clock in the evening at Klein Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 17th at four O'clock in the afternoon at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Pastor Bill Haygood officiating.
