David Neil Henley, 64, of Spring, passed away January 8, 2021. He was born May 11, 1956, in Houma, Louisiana to the late Shelby and DeLane Henley.
David Henley preferred to go by his middle name, Neil, and that is how everyone - friends, family, and business partners - knew him. His early childhood was spent on the road with his parents and three brothers, Steve, Allen, and Aubrey. Shelby moved his family each time the rig moved (being in the oil industry), but moving so much offered fun opportunities and adventure for Neil.
He graduated in 1981 from Stephen F. Austin University with his masters in Geology, and started his career with Hunt Oil as an engineer. In 1985, Neil went to Yemen to work for Hunt overseas. There, he met Ellen Jackson, who was teaching English at the International School.
After three months of dating, Neil proposed to Ellen on December 26, 1988. They were married March 25, 1989, in Plano, Texas.
In May 1990, Ellen returned to the states, five months pregnant, and Neil, upon completing the Yemen project, flew back in time for the birth of their daughter, April Henley, on September 5, 1990. Shortly after, Neil went to work for Ernie Cockrell and moved his family to Houston, Texas.
In 2002, Neil went into business for himself, creating Henley & Associates. Anyone who knew Neil, knew he was a good businessman, good with money, and really enjoyed his work.
Neil loved to golf, and if he was not at home, he was on the green. He had other interests, like collecting antique coins and LSU football. He loved his friends, loved to visit and stay in touch, cared about everyone else's goings-on. But most of all, he loved his family. He will be sorely missed, and one thing is certain: he is with the Heavenly Father, on the eternal green, making the illusive hole in one.
