Naomi Paula Steege Fackler, the beloved wife of John P. Fackler, Jr., Ph.D. passed away peacefully on July 5, 2018.

Naomi and her husband found each other at their alma mater Valparaiso University in 1955 from which they graduated in 1956. Naomi's entire life was dedicated to the welfare of family, friends, and those in need in the community and church.  She loved to sing and was in choirs from college days until she could no longer manage it a year or two ago. She helped establish a chancel choir in Boston, supported the choir at St. John's Lutheran Church, South Euclid, OH and the Our Saviour's Lutheran Church choir in College Station. Naomi helped with the choir library and sang at Lord of Life Lutheran Church here in The Woodlands until it was impossible for her to continue.  She also loved to hear her grandchildren sing. Naomi's help with those in need in College Station resulted in her working for many years with an intellectually impaired woman who was active in the Special Olympics, and a "down and out" gentleman who lived in the mission shelter.  Naomi also volunteered with the League of Women Voters both in Ohio and in Texas and worked in Bryan to establish a Dispute Resolution Center.

Naomi completed her Master of Library Science degree at the University of Texas in 1986. She loved library work and was employed as a librarian in the Medical Sciences library at Texas A&M University until she retired in 1996. She established a library at Our Saviour's in their new church building and remained its librarian until moving to the Woodlands in 2014. She continued her love of reading, especially mysteries, until her death, with her last trip to the library a few days before she died resulting in 5 new books (to be read in heaven).

Naomi was very gifted intellectually and dedicated her talents to ensure that her children understood the importance of gaining knowledge and a love for God and others. Besides reading to her kids at an early age and singing to them, she was an excellent proof reader and often proof-read and typed papers for them. She also helped her husband with his written work. She was a jewel that created a very loving and successful family. We are all grateful to have had her as a spouse, mother and friend.

Naomi was born in New York City on September 30, 1935, the daughter of the Rev. Martin Th. Steege and Lucie Cloeter Steege.  In support for her husband and family she resided in many places in her lifetime including Boston, MA, Berkeley, CA, Cleveland, OH, Santa Barbara, CA, Cambridge, England, College Station, TX and The Woodlands, TX. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, and their children, Dr. Katherine Grace Fackler Chapman of Geneva IL, Karla Sue Fackler Grafton of Hartford CT, Dr. John Martin Fackler of The Woodlands, TX and Dorothy Louise Fackler of Houston, TX. She is preceded in death by her daughter Cheryl Ruth Fackler Hug in 2013 and her sister Joanne Einersen in 2015. She is also survived by a sister, Rhoda R. Kriesel, and brothers, Martin T. ("Ted") Steege, and Dr. John F. Steege. Naomi cherished nine wonderful grandchildren, Jenna M. L. Chapman, Ian M. J. Chapman, Andrew M. Fackler Grafton, Nicholas Wm. Fackler Hug, Rebekah E. Fackler Grafton, Colin M. Fackler Hug, Danielle K. Fackler Grafton, Ava C. Fackler and Owen S. Fackler.
