Nancy Carole Sharp Martin was born December 17, 1940 and went to be with the Lord December 17, 2023. Nancy grew up in Houston, Texas with her siblings Dorothy Gale, Garry Stell, Loyd Wert, Jr. and Linda Lea. She attended Woodrow Wilson Elementary, Lanier Jr. High and graduated from Lamar High School in 1958. She attended Bering Memorial Methodist Church in her youth and loved being a part of the choir with her sister Gale, who she said "sang like an angel". For many years she enjoyed participating in the Sam Houston Trail Ride with her family, making lots of memories with the "Trail Ride Family". After High School she immediately started working in the banking business. She retired at the age of 70 from Comerica Bank. She made many good friends during her days at the bank. She married Horace Raymond Martin on September 9, 1964. They lived in the Northwest area of Houston for 17 years. In 1969 they had one child, Amy Lyn. Over the years they enjoyed watching her grow and competing in local amateur rodeos as a barrel racer. Nancy was Amy's biggest fan and everyone knew she was there — cheering loud and clear as Amy rounded that second barrel. Over the years she so enjoyed being a part of all her nieces and nephews lives as they grew up. Whether it was a simple phone call to say hello & catch up, a visit, enjoying holidays and special occasions together, playing a mean game of scrabble, making a simple phone call to ask, "Is your room and house tidy? I am on my way." with no intent on making the trip!! (LOL) and telling a certain nephew, "If you hunt one more rabbit, I am hiding your gun!" At the end of the day, she loved you all from the bottom of her heart. The MAGICAL chapters of her life started when she met her grandson Blake on July 29, 1998 and when she met her granddaughter Alyson on October 25, 2001. From those dates forward the world was Grand for her and she became "Nana"! She loved to spoil them rotten, watch them grow and cheered them on in anything they participated in. Her grandchildren where the shining light of her life. In her later days she enjoyed living with Allen, Amy & the grandkids. Every day there was a routine of favorite shows and classic country music to be seen and heard. But at about 6pm when Family Feud came on, there was no negotiating on changing that channel because her date with Steve Harvey began as she enjoyed her daily Blue Bell Ice Cream. This is a heart-felt summary of 83 years that passed too quickly of the lady know as daughter, wife, mom and nana. You touched so many lives in so many ways. You will be truly missed and we all love you to the moon and back.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Amy Goodrum and her husband Allen Goodrum; grandson: Blake Goodrum; granddaughter: Alyson Goodrum; sister: Linda Dyess and her husband Christopher Dyess,Sr; brother in law: Malcolm Martin; sister in law: Lucille VanWinkle and her husband Robert "Rip" VanWinkle; numerous nieces, nephews and life time friends.
