In Loving Memory of Muriel Byrd

Muriel Byrd, age 99, of Katy, Texas, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, family, and cherished memories.

Born on August 3, 1926, in Lucedale, Mississippi, Muriel lived a long, adventurous, healthy, and meaningful life. Over nearly a century, she witnessed remarkable changes in the world and embraced each season of life with strength, grace, and gratitude.

Muriel was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. James A. Byrd; her parents; her sister; and her cherished great-grandsons, Little Michael Garsee and Chris Parron.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and a true friend to many. Her greatest joy was her family.

She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Carolyn Zenzen and Debbi Kyser, and her son, Dr. J. Allen Byrd.

Muriel was blessed with five grandchildren: Dana Ellis (Reco), Michael Garsee (Jennifer), Christie Harris, Alec Byrd (Alissia), and Demi Byrd (Mike).

Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildren: Dominique (Elania), Rayshon, Tyrone, Amya, Justin, Cecilia, Olivia, Charlie, Deven, and Izaiah, as well as 12 beloved great-great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.

Muriel treasured every opportunity to spend time with her family. Whether gathered for holidays, celebrations, or simple moments together, she cherished being surrounded by those she loved. She also enjoyed watching football and enthusiastically cheering for Houston teams and Texas A&M.

She had a special fondness for birds and proudly displayed an extensive collection of bird figurines and keepsakes from around the world, each reflecting her appreciation for their beauty.

Known affectionately to everyone as "Granny Byrd," Muriel will always be remembered for her strength, warm heart, unwavering devotion to her family, and the love she generously shared across many generations of family and friends.

The memories created with Granny Byrd will remain in our hearts forever. Though her presence will be deeply missed, her love, wisdom, and enduring spirit will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
