At the age of 88 years, on August 28, 2018 at 12:25am, Mozelle Rawls Austin fell asleep on earth and woke up in paradise.

Mozelle was born in Ropesville, TX and spent her formative years in Lubbock, TX., where she married the love of her life and gave birth to her two children. After raising their children, she and her husband moved to Austin, TX. to expand their family Cabinet and Design business called Don Austin Woodworks. Following retirement, they enjoyed traveling together then settled in Houston, TX.

She is survived by her devoted husband and best friend, Donis C. Austin and her two children, Carlene Austin Kelly and Steve Michael Austin, as well as six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In order of eldest to youngest:

Michael Kelly and his wife Annette, and their two children Hannah and Corbin Kelly, of High Point, NC.

Shannon Kelly and his wife Sabrina of Dallas, TX.  Kendra Kelly-Dean and her husband Dusty, and their two children Jaden and Brooklyn Dean, of Dallas, TX. Sean Michael Austin, who preceded his Memo and greeted her in heaven, is survived by his wife Alisha and their son Steve Michael Austin of Houston, TX.

Chase Austin and his wife Liliya of Houston, TX. Matthew Austin of Houston, TX.

She is also survived by her brother, Bobby Rawls of Lubbock, TX.

Mozelle was a wonderful woman full of grace, dignity and personality.  She enjoyed traveling, artistic drawing, painting, going on walks, and playing games (of which she rarely lost) such as Dominos, Rook, Bingo, and Bowling. In her younger days, she was a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court and a stellar first baseman in a women's softball league. She was as athletic as she was beautiful and her wit was as quick as her devotion to her loved ones.

She also loved to serve her local church and encouraged others to live wholly for Jesus Christ.  She raised her family to revere God and, as a result, all of her children and grand-children serve in full-time Christian ministry. She embodied the qualities of loyalty, humility, grace, and perseverance. She loved people and had a gentleness about her that left those around her feeling special and cared for.

She often said "a life lived serving the Lord is a life well spent".

We are saddened we cannot hold her today, but the memories she gave us will keep her alive and warm our hearts.  Her last words, given with a smile, were, "I love you and I'll see you in Heaven."

The celebrations honoring Mozelle Rawls Austin will be Friday August 31, and Saturday September 1, 2018.

A friends and family viewing will take place Friday evening, August 31, 2018 from 7:00pm until 9:00pm.

The Home-Going Service will be held Saturday September 1, 2018 at 1:00pm.

Both Celebrations are at Champions Community Church, 13111 Bammel N. Houston Rd, Houston, TX 77066.
